The UZH International Summer School "Deep Dive into Blockchain" is expanding its campus beyond Zurich. For 2025, the Deep Dive into Blockchain UZH International Summer School is extending its reach to include classes at the University of Cape Town. Recognized as one of the top 250 universities in the world, University of Cape Town offers rigorous education in a stimulating, supportive environment complemented by an enriching campus experience.

During July 2025 the University of Cape Town classrooms will host the Deep Dive into Blockchain course, through live streams, and welcoming outstanding University of Zurich scholars and industry partners for in-person sessions. This unique educational experience ensures that every student—regardless of their ability or willingness to travel to Switzerland—can benefit from University of Zurich’s high-quality education and acquire the skills necessary to drive significant progress in their careers.

At the UZH Blockchain Center, we firmly believe that education should be without borders. This expansion represents a significant, initial step toward realizing that vision.

This course at the University of Zurich opens a new format of participation by providing students with the opportunity to travel to Cape Town, South Africa, and join the summer school program on its off-site campus. Off-site participants will attend sessions collectively at a designated classroom at the University of Cape Town, creating an interactive learning environment. UZH staff (i.e. researchers and supervisors) will be on-site to coordinate the course and support students over the three weeks.

Students who join the program as off-site participants benefit from the aspects of the off-site format while still able to atttend a highly innovative and unique summer school course offered by Europe's leading university in Blockchain research and teaching.

Students who would like to join the course "Deep Dive into Blockchain" and attend the program in person at the University of Cape Town will need to apply through our regular application process. During the application process, you will be asked to select a participation format. You will need to choose between the "on-campus format" (attending at the University of Zurich, Switzerland) and the "off-site format" (attending at the University of Cape Town, South Africa).

The lectures delivered at the University of Zurich campus are live streamed to the off-site campus, ensuring synchronous learning and real-time Q&A for off-site campus students. UZH staff and local scholars will supervise and ensure the quality standard and level of engagement that we have successfully offered on-campus in previous years. The staff will guide practical sessions and assist students.

Prominent blockchain experts and professionals from the region will deliver a set of guest lectures at the University of Cape Town, providing off-site participants with the opportunity to engage with experts and industry professionals in-person. These lectures will also be live-streamed to students in Zurich, enriching the curriculum with global and regional perspectives.

The regular fee for this summer school is 3,450 Swiss Francs (incl. accommodation).

The tuition fee includes:
All teaching lessons (incl. live sessions, podcasts, group assignments etc.) and the final assessment;
accommodation, a tailor-made social program that will foster your intercultural competence; a final certificate and a transcript indicating the credits earned in the program.

Please note: Students from economically disadvantaged countries may have priority in applying, to encourage diversity and inclusion. We will allocate more scholarship opportunities to the off-site campus applicants.

Guaranteed housing will be available for students joining the UCT-DDIB Experience. When applying, please indicate in your motivation letter that you would like to book the housing provided by UCT.
